What is a Community School?

A community school provides a holistic approach to academics, health and human services, community development and engagement.  Community schools coordinate resources to improve student learning, build stronger families and healthier communities.  CIS works alongside educators, parents, students and the community to build a community school. PA’s ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) identifies the community schools as a strategy to address student needs through school-based solutions and community partnerships.

Why use CIS to build a community school?

We have the experience! For more than 40 years, CIS has developed an evidence based approach to supporting student needs that is extremely successful. Nationally, we serve 1.5 million students across 23 states. CIS works to connect community resources to the school where they are both accessible and accountable. Take a look at our results.
