A hybrid of education, social service and community outreach, Communities In Schools surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

CIS Site Coordinators

Communities In Schools changes the dropout equation with Integrated Student Services (ISS).  We work inside school systems with superintendents, principals, educators and other personnel, forging community partnerships that bring resources into schools and help remove barriers to learning.  Our model addresses the total student—because students with unmet physical, psychological and social needs cannot learn effectively—and the whole school environment. The Site Coordinator Model is evidence based and used nationally by all CIS affiliates.

Our unique model positions a CIS Site Coordinator inside schools to assess needs and deliver necessary resources.  These Coordinators are consistent, caring adults whose job is to support students to succeed. As a single point of contact, they are uniquely positioned to match the needs of students and families with resources in the community, and to be active participants in the work of teachers and administrators in making their schools places of learning and achievement.

CIS of Pittsburgh currently has 4  Site Coordinators serving approximately 2,300 students each year at the following Pittsburgh schools:

  • Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5
  • Pittsburgh Arsenal 6-8
  • Penn Hills School District, Linton Middle School 5-8
  • Pittsburgh Urban Christian School (PUCS)
