Board Highlight: Marla Bradford

Equity Diversity and Inclusion Specialist for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Marla Bradford has been a Pittsburgh Area Community Schools (PACS) board member since the fall of 2020. In her role on the board, Bradford uses her passion for social equity and justice to advocate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

During her time on the board, she has provided valuable strategic insights on advancing diversity programming and hosted an Implicit Bias Training program, which educated board members on bias and trained them to recognize it and minimize its impact in the workplace.

A Clairton native, Bradford was introduced to PACS by former board member Karina Chavez. Clairton is among the highest need school districts in Allegheny County, and PACS is expanding to the district in 2024.

Bradford deeply understands how to plan and execute a meaningful DEI strategy and has extensive experience leading major programs to attract, recruit, and retain a diverse workforce. Before joining Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s team in June 2023, she was a senior diversity recruiter for Duquesne Light and a senior recruiter diversity lead at Duquesne University for over 17 years. During her time at Duquesne University, she pioneered major initiatives, including a new hire orientation program; a disability awareness month program; an award-winning minority professional development internship program; an annual campus diversity fair, “Be Informed - Get Engaged,”; and a diversity hiring guide for faculty and staff.

Bradford is an avid reader in her free time and enjoys diving into a good book.
